Job Description

1st shift -Corn Cook- $17/hr- Grand Rapids
 
Workbox Staffing is hiring Machine Operators in Grand Rapids.
Work at a local tortilla chip manufacturer cooking and monitoring corn to ensure proper consistency of the product. 
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in batch work or mixing room as a mixer is a plus
  • Monitor temperature during cooking process using a thermometer and make adjustments to the flame as needed
  • Add water and lime and stir corn with a paddle to ensure that is cooks evenly
  • Perform product quality checks
  • Adhere to GMP guidelines
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment 
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in food manufacturing preferred, 1-3 months related experience required
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with the team in English
  • Must have knowledge and experience with a weigh scale
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs max 
  • Must be able to do basic math (add, subtract, divide and multiply)
  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout entire shift
  • Must be able to work with a team
 
Someone who has worked in a mixing room as a mixer or has done batch work is a plus. In this role candidates will have to lift 50 lb. bags of corn and work in a very warm environment. They will be responsible for filling the tanks with bagged corn or corn from the silo. They will be lighting the gas lines using a propane torch. They will add water and lime, and then stir the tanks using a hand paddle to mix the corn throughout the cooking process. This will ensure that the corn will cook evenly.  They will need to monitor the temperature using a thermometer and make adjustments to the flame as needed. This is an opportunity for a permanent position with benefits available at hire!
