Job Summary:

The Square Mill/Armada operator will work as part of the direct manufacturing shop floor team. In this position, the Square Mill/Armada operator will run a Square mill machine that will supply a part to the next operation while maintaining tolerances in a manufacturing environment. The Square Mill/Armada operator will inspect and measure finished products using precision measuring tools. The Square Mill/Armada operator will control and adjust machine setting and test operation of the machine periodically. This position requires the operation of machinery in a temperature controlled manufacturing environment.

This position requires the ability to read instructions and follow these instructions with precision to produce outputs.

Essential/Key Functions:

  • Set up square mills with fixtures

  • Load and unload plates from fixtures

  • Ensure proper surface finish

  • Change cutters as necessary

  • Control and adjust machine settings (e.g. speed)

  • Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools

  • Test operation of machines periodically

  • Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws

  • Keep records of approved and defective units or final products

  • Maintain activity logs

  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings etc.

  • Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly

  • Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality

  • Read and comprehend instructions and follow established procedures

  • Make size adjustments and understand measuring instruments

  • Take precision measurements using micrometers

  • Check output to ensure highest quality

  • Maintain equipment in good condition and perform operator preventative maintenance

  • Submit requests for maintenance repair as required

  • Keep records of production quantities and time

  • Report on issues, malfunction or defective parts

  • Able to stop production if the work center/machine is not producing products that meet all required specifications

  • Properly identify all product processed with work order number, inspection status, and operation status

  • Follow all safety guidelines and operate machinery in a safe manner

  • Physical presence on the job is essential and necessary including weekends and holidays if deemed necessary by the company

  • Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent;

  • Technical Degree a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience as a mill operator preferred

  • Skill in operating diverse high speed machinery and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometer etc.)

  • Ability to read and blueprints, schematics, & manuals

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach

  • Technical knowledge

  • Ability to use and read a micrometer and precision measuring tools

  • Must possess basic math skills

  • Ability to understand quality control principles

  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Ability to follow all safety guidelines
