Controls Engineer Level II - $26/hr + BOE - Holland, MI
A local Holland, MI company that designs and manufactures machinery for a variety of industries is actively seeking a Controls Engineer Level II. Typical work hours are Monday - Friday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with OT as needed. Must be able to travel Worldwide 25% of the time. The Controls Engineer Level II will provide Controls Engineering support for products and services worldwide. They will assist other departments and customers to ensure quality electrical specifications are met. They will Direct Controls Engineers-Level 1 and Electrical Technicians, to design and document new products and product line enhancements of an electrical nature. They will work with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing processes for existing and new products and with quality personnel to insure that all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met by applying engineering principals under minimal supervision. Responsibilities of the job include but are not limited to:
- Performs in depth investigation into materials, processes and products assigned by management. Provides a comprehensive written analysis for review.
-Review electrical Bill of Materials for consistency and accuracy.
-Monitor wire stock and order replacement wire as needed. Monitor electrical stock and order replacements as needed. Determines proper material selection by performing static and dynamic engineering calculations with the aid of computer-aided design (CAD, personal computers (PC) and calculators).
-Analyzes electrical costs by performing mathematical calculations. Applies calculated data, with material costs, to determine total product material costs.
-Works with other engineering designers to review form, fit and function of product designs by utilizing CAD and PC s.
-Provide project leadership on major installation or revision of machines and equipment. Including direct production of electrical controls. Weld wire ways to machine bases, run conduit, pull cables, read blueprints and wire machines accordingly, track BOM parts and make sure they arrive on time. Work with assembly department to coordinate timing of wiring and machine startup. Build electrical panels, assist in machine disassembly for shipping. Test safety circuits.
-Documents all projects and maintain in master engineering file. Insure that a bill of materials and electrical schematic are placed in the engineering file of each machine.
-Design and assemble prototype product using power and hand tools.
-Assist and Support development programs. Prepares test requests, monitors tests, and evaluates test performance per agency and industry standards.
-Analyzes competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance and packaging.
-Contacts and when necessary visits customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information relative to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes.
-Travel and provide engineering field support for machine installation, startup and service for all of customer base and/or our dealer/agents
-Support customers, Sales Department and Purchasing Department on project control specifications. Answer controls and electrical related customer service telephone calls.
Functions and Requirements:
-Bachelor of Science in engineering discipline or equivalent experience
-5 years engineering experience required, packaging industry preferred.
-Electrical wiring experience in an OEM atmosphere
-Experience in RSLogix 5000, Logix 500, FactoryTalk View ME, Siemens WinCC and Step 7 V5
-Must be able to debug machine wiring, and high and low voltage circuits.
-May include machine design, tooling, controls or field maintenance, mechanical desktop, 3-D drawing, Excel, Word, Autocad and/or Internet experience.
-Must have a valid Passport.
